Recycling Council of Ontario announces Canada's Plastic Waste Action Centre
Canadians are keenly aware of the consequences tied to plastic waste and are eager to learn how they can reduce the impact of choices they make as individuals, businesses, and governments.
Despite the increasing interest in plastics and reducing its environmental impacts there is no single national repository that provides governments, businesses, educators, researchers, and citizens the necessary scope of information to take meaningful action:
inventory of resources and tools
relevant facts and figures
ongoing market developments and business efforts
regulatory advances and policy initiatives
consumer tips and more
That’s why Recycling Council of Ontario (RCO), in partnership with Walmart Canada, is excited to announce the development of the Plastic Waste Action Centre, a unique knowledge hub solely dedicated to plastic waste education and reduction across Canada and beyond.
RCO will leverage its extensive subject matter expertise, multi-stakeholder memberships and partnerships from across the country, and institutional knowledge to populate the site.
We are currently curating material and anticipate launching the resource in full April 2019 in both official languages. We will also reach out to interested stakeholders from coast to coast to gather knowledge and information for inclusion.
Seed funding for the Plastic Waste Action Centre has been generously provided through our ongoing partnership with Walmart Canada.
Walmart has made significant efforts towards our aspirational goals to create zero waste, be powered by 100% renewable energy and sell products that sustain people and the environment. We look forward to raising awareness and making progress on addressing plastic waste through the Plastic Waste Action Centre.
RCO anticipates additional private and public partners as the Plastic Waste Action Centre is developed through the remainder of 2018 and the first quarter of 2019.
