New SARCAN Recycling Depot Opening in Buffalo Narrows in Early 2016

SARCAN Recycling is opening a brand new depot in Buffalo Narrows to better serve Saskatchewan residents in the Northwest. The new depot will open in early 2016, and will serve approximately 9000 people in the communities of Buffalo Narrows, Ile-a-la-Crosse, Beauval, La Loche, Dillon, Birch Narrows, Clearwater and surrounding areas.

“We are incredibly excited to be bringing beverage container, paint and electronics recycling services to the residents of northwest Saskatchewan,” said Amy McNeil, SARCAN’s Executive Director. “People from this area will no longer need to travel to Meadow Lake or La Ronge to go to SARCAN,” added McNeil.

The new depot will also bring employment opportunities to the Buffalo Narrows area. SARCAN Recycling employees earn competitive wages as well as employer-paid benefits and pension. The depot will be quite large, as over three million beverage containers are projected to be returned to the new depot every year.

SARCAN Recycling is working in partnership with the Ministry of Environment and the Buffalo Narrows Economic Development Corporation on bringing the depot to the area. On behalf of the Government of Saskatchewan, the honourable Herb Cox, Minister of Environment, said “We congratulate SARCAN and the community on this important expansion of service to northern Saskatchewan. With the ease and convenience of the new location, more product will be recycled locally and that’s good news for both people in the area and our environment.”

On behalf of the Buffalo Narrows Economic Development Corporation and the town, Mayor Estelle Laliberte said, “We are very excited about the SARCAN depot here in Buffalo Narrows. The SARCAN depot will not only create local employment, boost the local economy but it will also be environmentally beneficial as it will reduce landfill waste.”

SARCAN Recycling provides beverage container, paint and electronics recycling throughout Saskatchewan. Over 600 people of all abilities are employed at SARCAN Recycling. The Buffalo Narrows depot will be the 72nd location in the province.
