It seems too soon, but the leaves are already turning. Fall is on its way, and SWRC’s one-day workshops are back. This year, we’re going to Melville on October 17th, Swift Current on October 29th and Melfort on November 14th. On November 21st, we’re getting together with the Recycling Council of Alberta to host a workshop in border-straddling Lloydminster.
We’re looking forward to hearing about our host communities’ recycling and waste programs. We learn a lot from firsthand accounts of what works and what doesn’t in different places. We also want to hear from participants on single use plastics (and single use items in general). Is this an issue for your community or your organization? What kind of feedback are you getting?
We’ll hear from the Ministry of Environment about the new Household Hazardous Waste regulations and other issues that they’re working on. We’ll talk about composting programs in the province and hear about composting in winter. The day will finish off with a discussion of the work to bring mandatory Landfill Operator Certification to the province, followed by a presentation on an innovative landfill capping system that could end up generating carbon credits in the future.
