New Hay Bale Recycling Facility

Think Plastics, a New Hamburg, ON, company, has developed an innovative process to recycle used agricultural polyethylene bale wrap and greenhouse over-wintering film into plastic lumber. The company’s 16,000 square foot facility produces “Baleboard”, which can be nailed, stapled, glued or cut; will not splinter or leach; and can be recycled over and over again. Until now, much of the used agricultural bale wrap ended up in landfill or was burned. More than a dozen municipalities in southwestern Ontario now waive tipping fees for bale wrap to encourage farmers to bring the material to specified landfill sites. Think Plastics provides free pick up for sufficient quantities. Baleboard is available in 2” x 6” x 12' and 4” x 4” x 10'. It is being marketed to farmers for fence posts, recreational outdoor furniture, boat docks, and flooring for stalls.
