IC&I Paper Recycling Mandatory in Newfoundland

Office paper recycling is now mandatory for businesses with 25 employees or more in St. John’s, Mount Pearl, Paradise and Conception Bay South. A Minister’s Order under the Waste Diversion Regulations banned the landfilling of most grades of paper, including envelopes, telephone books and hard cover books (covers removed) effective Sept. 1, 2005. Recyclable corrugated cardboard is covered by an earlier ban. On March 1, 2006, the ban will be extended to all businesses, regardless of number of employees. The bans will likely be extended to other Newfoundland areas in the future.
