SARCAN Recycling
Since June 1, 1988, SARCAN Recycling has operated Saskatchewan's beverage recycling system. Since then, they have diverted more than 150,000 tonnes of material from landfills. In August 2005, SARCAN recycled its three billionth container. (That's 3,000,000,000!)
SARCAN employs 350 adults full-time, plus an additional 150 seasonal
casual employees, at its 71 depots across Saskatchewan The majority of employees are persons with
disabilities or persons who previously received Social Assistance.
Over 85.9% of all deposit-paid, ready-to-serve beverage containers sold in Saskatchewan (230 million annually) are recycled at SARCAN Recycling depots province-wide. These are among the highest return rates anywhere in North America!
